Book Publishing Guide

Founded in 1992, Cloud 9 Publishing has evolved out of our original entity, Crow Feather Publishing. Cloud 9 Publishing releases 1-2 carefully selected book titles and a semi-annual magazine per year. We are not actively soliciting titles, but queries are welcomed.

If you decide to self-publish, or even if you get a small press publisher (like us) to handle the mechanics of getting your book into print, you will have to do the lion’s share of the marketing and promotional work yourself.

If we are interested in you and send you a proposal, and we come to an agreement, here’s how we do things:

We consider ourselves a Mentor-Publisher. If we agree to publish your book, here is what you can expect of us as your publisher:

We’ll be your Mentor-Publisher. We’ll teach you to manage your KDP/Amazon account, and you keep all royalties: We work with authors to produce a book they can be proud of. We will do all the formatting and cover design of your book, but your manuscript should be well-edited and in its final form before sending it to us. Even so, if we read it and deem that it would benefit from more editing, we will help suggest someone for you. What we discuss as author and publisher can be put into a formal contract for communication purposes. We strive toward transparency, honesty, and simplicity in our relationships with authors. We hope that after your first book, you will know enough to subsequently self-publish confidently on your own without needing us.

At this time, manuscripts are by invitation, although a brief query/cover letter sent to iinadia@msn.com is welcomed and will be considered.

Books will be released as time and the editor’s schedule permits. The editor reserves the right to select the cover art or photo and the design of the book, but we work with you to produce something you will love.

An ISBN and bar code will be assigned, and the price of the book will be set by the editor and agreed upon by the poet—usually, but not always—related to the length and/or formatting of the manuscript (and, therefore, the amount of time and materials that will be used to produce the book: ink, card stock, paper, etc.). Your book will be listed on Amazon.com. Proceeds from those sales will go to you, the author, and it will be your responsibility to manage the account and pay any appropriate taxes after the book is published.

We charge a modest fee of $1500.00 (subject to change) for formatting and design and include one 14-minute video author interview. The fee can be paid in two installments:$750.00 to launch the project and another $750.00 when we close it.

Book releases and feature readings may be scheduled locally by the poet and his/her book will have as much social media and online publicity as the editor can muster/produce/arrange.

While every effort will be made to expedite publishing and to accommodate the poet, books will be released as time and the editor’s schedule permits.

Before final publishing, each author will be given a chance to proof their book. This is a very important step. Once your book is live on Amazon, it is difficult to make changes to the content and/or fix typos in your book. Additional fees would apply.

We reserve the right to refuse any manuscript for any reason without explanation.
These guidelines are subject to change without notice. They are general guidelines. Details of individual book projects will be negotiated with the authors and may vary between projects.
